Thoughts for Today from Life Slices
Self-expression means communicating who we are and what we stand for in our interactions with family and friends, in our work, in the ways we give of ourselves, and in the ways we spend our time.
Who we are becomes how we live. If we can’t or don’t or won’t express ourselves, we deny our selfhood and stifle our life force.
Are you in environments that allow you to be yourself? Do the people in your life honor you for being who you are? Do you feel free to show your true self to the people who are part of your life? If not, explore ways to express more of the authentic you.
Let the real you shine through!
I was recently asked about how I came to find the courage to define my encore career as the president and founder of Celebrations of Life. I remember during my transition time, I felt that I needed to rediscover who I was in my late forties as a mom, wife and business woman. My husband, family and friends encouraged me to think about how I wanted to spend my time doing what I felt was most important and what would allow me to bring my pent-up creative energies and passions together. This affirmation of my self-expression was a great motivator and it continues to guide my decisions and work today. So much so, that I truly feel that the real me has had a chance to grow and flourish, not only through Celebrations of Life, but in everything I do.
As Mother’s Day is soon upon us, I am grateful for the two most courageous women in my life – my mother Georgi Girl and my grandmother Rosie – for living authentic lives and letting their real selves always shine through!
Enjoy each and every slice of life –
